A 13-year-old has been arrested in California for allegedly calling multiple police departments in two states in an attempt to "SWAT" three targets.
The Camarillo, California, teen, who has name suppression due to his age, made three false reports of violent crimes in progress between January 15 and 20.
In the first incident on January 15, the teen allegedly attempted to SWAT a rival Minecraft player in Ocean City, New Jersey, reports Ars Technica.
Police quickly identified the call as a hoax and traced it back to Camarillo, CA.
The next day, the teen allegedly "swatted" one of his teachers, claiming there were hostages at the household, and that it would be blown up if a US$30,000 ransom were not paid.
Detective Gene Martinez of the Ventura County Sheriff's Department told Ars Technica he was one of more than 20 officers who responded to the Camarillo call.
"We basically surrounded the house. The caller reported there were 10 hostages in the house and demanded $30,000 in cash or he would blow up the house. Whenever there is a hostage situation, we activate specialised units to respond."
The final call was made on January 20, when the teen allegedly swatted a female classmate.
Following the final call-out, Police saw the pattern in the calls and began their investigation. The teen was arrested on March 17.
"He did admit to doing the incidents," detective Martinez said. "He felt he was wronged."
Detective Martinez said the teen was released into his parents' custody. Due to his age, he would likely receive probation.
The arrest for swatting is the second in as many months. In February alleged swatter "Famed God" was arrested in Las Vegas on charges related to swatting.
