Kickstarter hopeful Descent: Underground is not a MOBA and will contain a single player campaign, Descendent Studios has confirmed.

The game's initial Kickstarter post didn’t mention single player at all – a mistake according to Descendent boss Eric "Wingman" Peterson.

“It was the number one most talked about subject, and we mistakenly left it off the original page,” he wrote in an update.

“You guys can all blame me for that, as I wanted to introduce that along the way and surprise everyone.”

According to the amended pitch, Descent: Underground's initial release will include a single player mini-campaign that serves as a prologue to a full campaign.

“As we continue to raise funding and can grow the studio, our plan is to deliver a full-blown single-player adventure worthy of the original franchise,” the Kickstarter now reads.

“Given that our team has such a rich background in epic single-player games, we have very lofty goals for the prequel story that tells about the origins of the PTMC, the Material Defenders, and even the crazy robots.”

Meanwhile, Descendent Studios’ Zane Jungman has dismissed ideas that the game is a MOBA, as Peterson had mentioned on his LinkedIn page.

“Just to clarify, Descent: Underground is not going to be a MOBA revamp of Descent,” Jungman told us.

“Game play will take place in first-person shooter spacecraft. Players will be able to battle each other in deathmatch arenas, or enjoy exciting solo campaigns.

“The term MOBA is too broad to apply to Descent: Underground. We’re staying true to the original arcade action of classic Descent, but also hope to update the experience for modern audiences.”

At the time of writing, Descent: Underground has raised US$186,001 of its US$600,000 goal, with 25 days remaining.
