The Banner Saga’s creative director has announced Killers and Thieves, a heist title for PC that has players recruit and control unsavory types looking to pick a city clean.
Alex Thomas is creating the game at Stoicm while his two colleagues continue on with The Banner Saga 2.
"In Killers and Thieves [you] control a feudal thieves' guild, preying on the riches of an old and corrupt city,” reads the game’s official site.
"Recruit randomly generated thugs and crooks and turn them into master thieves and skilled assassins with unique abilities, traits and appearances.
"Pull off heists on procedural city blocks. Control multiple thieves in real-time and gather as much loot as you can.
"Just don't overplay your hand. Capture leads to prison time, or death. And death in these parts is permanent."
From a map view of the city, the player recruits new, inexperienced thieves and sends them on procedurally-generated missions, where they are steered through locked and guarded rooms using various skills.
There will be combat, but thieves won’t be particularly strong in this regard.
All ill-gotten gains and sold for gold so you can pay your minions, upgrading their headquarters, improve their skills, and so forth.
According to Thomas, the game has a lot in common with roguelikes: permanent death, modular gameplay and lose conditions.
“The final game will include a story campaign with an ending. Beating the campaign is not a given- it will be challenging,” he wrote.
Killers and Thieves is expected to release for PC next year, and console versions will be considered if there is enough demand.
