Valve has unveiled its new Steam Controller.

It includes two touch pads that work as buttons, triggers, bumpers and three tow buttons on the back on each side of the controller, for a total of six. On the front there are an additional four face buttons.

The controller also has a thumbstick on the left.

It sounds overly complicated but Polygon reports that "it makes sense when you hold it in your hand, and the controller does some interesting things to emulate the use of a mouse and keyboard."

The right touch pad emulates a track ball, complete with a sense of momentum, said Polygon. The Steam overlay can be brought up at any time to adjust the controls.

The Steam Controller will be released in the US in November. It will cost US$49.99.
