Netflix, the world's largest Internet television streaming service, will launch in New Zealand on March 24.
Internationally, Netflix offers a huge variety of original and syndicated programming. Original programming includes Bloodline, Daredevil, Marco Polo, and Sense8.
Two of Netflix's critically acclaimed original series, House of Cards and Orange is the New Black, will not be available on the service in New Zealand as those have already been licensed to Lightbox.
Netflix has announced regional programming partnerships with Roadshow Entertainment, Beyond Distribution, Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) and Disney.
Netflix will offer three plans: a single-stream standard definition plan, two-stream high-definition plan, and four-stream 4K ultra-high definition “family” plan. It has not said how much it intends to charge for each.
“Many Aussies and Kiwis have heard a lot about Netflix over the years, and we’re excited they’ll get to experience our unique blend of Netflix original content, local series and films, and popular movies and TV shows from around the world, all for a low monthly price,” said Netflix boss Reed Hastings.
Netflix will be available to stream on all major console platforms including PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, and Wii U.
Consumers who purchase an Xbox One at select stores will receive three months prepaid access to Netflix.
“Xbox has a long association with Netflix around the world, and with this announcement we’re excited to bring our partnership to the millions of Xbox owners across Australia and New Zealand,” said Xbox Australia's Jeremy Hinton. “With Xbox One we are committed to delivering the best entertainment experience in Australian and New Zealand living rooms.”
In New Zealand, Vodafone customers who sign up for select plans will receive several months of prepaid service, said Netflix.
