Darksiders creator and director Joe Madureira is turning his Battle Chasers comic book into an RPG.
He’s also resurrecting the comic itself, which hasn’t been updated since 2001.
Madureira has joined forces with Vigil co-founder Ryan Stefanelli to create the game for PC, consoles, and perhaps even tablets under a new company, Airship Syndicate.
Speaking to Polygon, Madureira and Stefanelli said that the game will have players control classic Battle Chasers characters including Garrison, Gully, and Calibretto.
"Even though the game mechanically is going to be very different from Darksiders, I think we're still really going to be doing everything we can to make sure that the dungeon exploration side of the game is soaked with lots of fun adventurous elements," Stefanelli said.
The new comics will resolve the cliffhanger the series ended on, and Airship Syndicate may yet turn to Kickstarter to fund the game.
"I've always wanted to do an animated series, possibly, so there's a couple of different options that we're pursuing for bringing the franchise back in a big way," Madureira said.
