Aussie-made crafting and city-building game TownCraft is out now for PC via Steam.
According to Sydney-based developer Flat Earth Games, TownCraft is a chill-out game in which players are tasked with transitioning from being alone in the wilderness, crafting their first hatchet, to running their own small medieval village. Peasants, merchants, kings and queens will slowly populate the player's town as they create a thriving miniature medieval economy from scratch.
It was originally released for iPad in 2013, and became a local success, reaching number two on the paid app store charts.
"The idea at the outset was to create the kind of in-depth simulation game for iPad that I enjoyed on PC," said Flat Earth co-founder Rohan Harris.
"The processing power was there, and it bothered me that I couldn't play the kind of complex games that I wanted on the device. After it went well, and since it was created in the image of desktop games, moving to desktop was the next logical choice!"
"We built it to be kind of surreal, kind of exploratory, and kind of kitsch," added Leigh Harris, co-founder.
"We simultaneously had fun with the game's aesthetics while aiming to make the mechanics deep and rewarding. We're glad to finally have it on PC, a logical home for a game which was born of our love of old-school 90s PC gaming."
TownCraft was created with the development support of Epiphany Games and the funding support of Screen Australia. It’s currently US$9 on Steam.
