Hardware manufacturer Nvidia faces a class action lawsuit over claims it misled consumers with the specifications of its GTX 970 graphics card.
PC World reports that the lawsuit was filed late last week. It names Nvidia and Giga-Byte as defendants.
The issue is a claim Nvidia made in its GTX 970 advertising. The company claims the card has 4GB of GDDR5 VRAM, however it has been revealed that the VRAM comes in two parts, one 3.5GB and another 512MB. The bandwidth of the 512MB portion appears to be much lower than the 3.5GB portion: 28GB/s compared to 192GB/s.
Users report a number of performances issues whenever the card attempts to access more than 3.5GB of VRAM.
The lawsuit seeks a jury trial and damages under California law. A judge will determine whether it can proceed as a class action case.
Nvidia declined PC World's request for comment.
The publication reports that online retailers including Amazon are offering customers refunds on GTX 970 cards.
