Turkey's Minister of Family and Social Policies, Ayşenur Islam, has ordered an investigation into whether Minecraft is too violent for children to be playing.

Haberturk, via the BBC, reports that Islam called for the investigation after his wife was told by a journalist that players get points for killing other players. The journalist asked what Mr Islam's ministry intended to do about it.

Turkish games journalist Kaan Gezer said on the Leadergamer website, "Stories like this cause the video game industry in Turkey to stall or even deteriorate."

In New Zealand, Minecraft is rated PG. It is used as an educational tool in some schools.
