Kojima Productions has denied that a Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance sequel is on the way after a sizzle reel at the Taipei Games Show raised the hopes of many gamers.

The brief appearance of a blue number two in what looked like the font used for the original hack ‘n’ slash title immediately had the Internet buzzing about a sequel.

However, in a strangely-worded tweet, journalist-turned-presenter Geoff Keighley said he had talked to Kojima Productions’ Ken-ichiro Imaizumi, who said that the number did not signify that a sequel to the popular title was underway.

The tease appeared alongside mentions of The Order: 1886, Bloodborne, Uncharted 4 and other already-announced games.

Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance was developed at Platinum Games (Vanquish, Bayonetta) and published by Kojima Productions parent company Konami – the home of all other Metal Gear Solid games.

Hideo Kojima has a history of obtuse marketing stunts and odd reveals. He was initially coy about whether The Phantom Pain was a Metal Gear Solid game, and recently released P.T., which turned out to be a demo for a new Silent Hill game.
