A new Rock Band survey circulated by Harmonix has reignited hope that the series will soon be rebooted.
The survey asks participants to rank the importance of a number of features ranging from backwards compatibility, online multiplayer, and a fixed campaign mode.
This isn't the first time a Rock Band reboot has been hinted at. Speaking in a Reddit Ask-Me-Anything in May 2014, Harmonix CEO Alex Rigopulos said, "Of course I was sad when Rock Band passed its (first!) peak, but one way or another, it will be back."
"Music games need to evolve just like every aspect of pop culture. The band game boom was followed by a dance game boom, which will be followed by some other manifestation of music games -hopefully some of the new stuff Harmonix is working on.
"Music is a permanent aspect of the human experience, and so is gameplay. It’s Harmonix’s job to figure out new ways for music and gameplay to amplify each other’s emotional power. Stand by."
Only last week, Harmonix announced that it will be releasing new DLC for Rock Band 3, 21 months after it ceased production on new content for the game.
Three songs are coming to Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 on January 21: "R U Mine?" from the Arctic Monkey's 2013 release AM, "Shepherd Of Fire" from Avenged Sevenfold's 2013 album Hail to the King, and "Something from Nothing," the lead single off the recently released Foo Fighters album Sonic Highways.
