Nosgoth, the PC-only free-to-play multiplayer title that pits teams of vampires and humans against each other, will go into open beta on January 22.

Nosgoth is a spin-off the Legacy of Kain series, which has lain dormant for more than a decade.

According to publisher Square Enix, Nosgoth empowers players of all skill levels with a system focusing on "sidegrades" rather than upgrades.

It promises fast-paced and intense gameplay, a variety of classes, and asymmetric combat, with melee-oriented vampires battling humans that carry ranged weapons.

"Our goal for the Open Beta is to deliver a fun and engrossing metagame and we realize that working closely with our community is the best way for us to balance and deepen the experience going forward,” said game director Corey Davis.
