North America’s Cognitive Prime has come out on top in the Smite 2015 World Championships, earning itself more than US$1.3m in cash.

The other grand finalist was Europe’s Titan, and the competition went to a tie-breaking fifth game before Cognitive Prime came out on top.

Titan took home just over US$522,000 for second place, with Cognitive Red and SK Gaming winning US$391,839 and US$261,226 for third and fourth places, respectively. The bottom four teams each received US$32,653.

The tournament spanned three days and featured eight teams from around the world.

More than a million unique viewers watched the action unfold on Smite’s official Twitch channel, making it the top viewed channel across the service, and close to 2.9 million cumulative daily unique viewers tuned in to watch the event online – nearly one viewer for every dollar at stake for the players.

That, on top of those that packed into the auditorium of Atlanta’s Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre.

The Championship’s total prize pool was a shade over US$2.6m, more than US$2m of which was raised via crowdfunding through Smite’s in-game promotion, the Odyssey.

The second season of Smite commences soon, complete with new challenges and surprises, and the game is coming to Xbox One later this year.
