A Melbourne-based developer is seeking funds to finish work on a cool-looking procedurally-generated adventure game for PC called Moonman.
Ben Porter has been working on Moonman for more than two years full-time, and is hoping to raise AU$35,000 via Kickstarter to get the game out the door in a year or so.
According to Porter, Moonman has mechanics similar to games like Minecraft, Terraria, Starbound, and Crea.
“You can chop down trees, mine and smelt ore, craft weapons and armour, and build structures; however, like jumping and running and fighting, these are just the basic rules of the world,” reads his Kickstarter pitch.
“Moonman is really a single player exploration-focussed game set in a strange alien world, and in that sense it's more in line with games like Another World, Knytt Stories, or Proteus.”
The plot has the titular moonman is searching for for fallen moon fragments which will power a great star-machine. He can craft, battle the world’s inhabitants, and build shelter, and everything is the game is destructible.
“My primary goal with Moonman is to make a strange and vibrant world to explore,” Poorter writes.
“Each new game will procedurally generate a unique planet to explore with populated towns, dark dungeons, exotic forests, quiet caves, submerged tombs, and crumbling castles.
"Quest into each of these areas to find fragments of the moon – the fire fragment in a volcanic region, the ghost fragment in the wastelands, and the pale fragment in the forest.”
The game features:
◆ procedurally-generated landscapes and towns to explore
◆ peculiar inhabitants to talk to
◆ abundant resources to harvest and mine
◆ a plethora of items to wield, wear, throw, and craft
◆ monstrous creatures to forcefully negotiate with
◆ ancient puzzle-machines to unlock
Moonman has raised AU$5,096 in the day or so it has been on Kickstarter, and has 29 days to reach AU$35,000.
