A new Baldur's Gate title is coming this year, fifteen years after the classic Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn was released for Windows PC and Mac.
Development on the game – codenamed Adventure Y – is underway at Beamdog, which handled the Enhanced Editions of the original games, as well as that of Icewind Dale.
Codenamed Adventure Y, it will take place between the Enhanced Edition of the original game and Baldur's Gate 2: Shadows of Amn.
"This year, the eagerly anticipated Adventure Y will finally navigate the dark underground caverns of development and venture out into the Sword Coast," said Beamdog.
It will run on the Infinity Engine.
Back in 2012, Beamdog boss Trent Oster tweeted, "Keep your ears peeled for Adventure Y, which is intimately linked to the Bhallspawn [sic] storyline."
He later described the game as "an optional storyline piece in the Bhallspawn [sic] series."
The game’s title and release date will be released in late autumn.
“We have an exciting release planned for this game, something bigger than we’ve ever done before,” said Beamdog.
Baldur's Gate 3 is not happening, however – not yet, at least.
"We’d be lying if we said we never think about doing a Baldur’s Gate III game, so we won’t say that," the studio added.
"But we will say there’s nothing in the works yet regarding BGIII or a 5th edition game."
