Nintendo DS titles will soon be available on Wii U via its Virtual Console service, Nintendo has announced.

The company was sure the technical hurdles preventing the games from appearing on its latest console had been overcome, said Nintendo president Satoru Iwata.

"The dual-screen Nintendo DS, one of which is a touch screen, has a very strong software line-up, and so we plan to add the Virtual Console titles from Nintendo DS software to the future Virtual Console lineup for Wii U,” he said.

Nintendo plans to double-down on the Wii U GamePad, and create software that takes advantage of its unique features, Iwata added.

A list of supported titles and release dates is not yet available.
