A Desert Strike remake could be in the works at EA.
The company has submitted two trademark applications to the US Patent and Trademark Office regarding the helicopter shoot-‘em-up.
Desert Strike (full name Desert Strike: Return to the Gulf) was originally released in February 1992 for Mega Drive, and later ported to SNES and also released on the Commodore Amiga.
The player controls a lone Apache helicopter and attempts in a series of non-linear missions to destroy enemy weapons and installations, rescue hostages, and capture enemy personnel, all while managing supplies of fuel and ammunition.
At the time of release it was EA’s best-selling game.
It was the first in the Strike series, and was followed up by Jungle Strike in 1993, Urban Strike in 1994, Soviet Strike in 1996, and Nuclear Strike in 1997. The latter two saw release on the first PlayStation.
