The movie adaptation of Assassin’s Creed has been slated for release on August 7, 2015, reports The Hollywood Reporter.

Prometheus star Michael Fassbender will take the lead role, although which of Assassin’s Creed’s several protagonists will feature is unknown.

The script has several contributors including Minority Report writer Scott Frank, and British playwright Michael Leslie.

Fox and New Regency are producing the film in conjunction with Ubisoft Motion Pictures, a new division of Assassin’s Creed creator Ubisoft.

Key details remain unknown at this time, including where and when the movie is set and who will star alongside Fassbender.

Film adaptations of games have performed poorly in the past. Prince Of Persia: Sands of Time has a Metacritic score of 50/100 based on 38 reviews, and a Rotten Tomatoes score of 40 percent based on 40 "top critic" reviews.

Blizzard announced at BlizzCon last weekend that a film adaptation of its popular Warcraft universe will be in theatres in December, 2015.

Star Wars: Episode VII is also scheduled to open December 18, 2015.
