Zynga co-founder Justin Waldron is leaving the social gaming company.

Waldron made the announcement in a post on Facebook last night.

"I've decided it's time to leave Zynga and venture off on my own again," Waldron said.

"It's been six-and-a-half years since we pushed the button to launch our first game, and each moment since has been magic.

It's incredibly humbling to have worked with such a talented team. I am grateful to have had the chance to help build a company that touched so many people,” he said.

“Thank you to everyone who has been a part of it - both in the trenches and for playing the games."

Waldron did not say what his next move would be, although recently he has been investing in a variety of start-ups.

It has been a tumultuous year for Zynga. In July, former Microsoft Xbox head Don Mattrick Zynga took over as CEO from co-founder Mark Pincus.

That same month the company announced losses of US$16 million over three months, and three of its veteran executives left.
