Square Enix has announced Nosgoth, a free-to-play team-based competitive multiplayer PC game set in the Legacy of Kain universe.

Nosgoth pits humans wielding ranged weapons and specialised equipment against vampires, who possess “savage close-combat melee attacks” and supernatural abilities.

Each race has three classes: those playing as vampire may choose between the Reaver, Tyrant, and Sentinel, while those on the human side can be a Scout, Alchemist, or Hunter.

Nosgoth is in development at Psyonix, which created the Onslaught mode for Unreal Tournament 2004 and had a hand in Gears of War, Unreal Tournament 3, XCOM: Enemy Unknown, Homefront, Bulletstorm, and Mass Effect 3.

Despite its free-to-play business model, Psyonix promised Nosgoth would never be pay-to-win.

Registrations for the closed beta are open now.
