Every active major franchise in Electronic Arts’ portfolio will have a free-to-play offering in the future, says chief operating officer Peter Moore.
Speaking with Engadget at Gamescom, Moore said EA had seen great success with its free-to-play Battlefield and FIFA titles.
“The ability for you to be able to interact with those franchises on a free-to-play basis is going to be part-and-parcel with every major franchise we do now,” he said.
Moore added that the company is progressing towards its vision of becoming a “games as a service” provider, rather than as a supplier of limited lifespan boxed products.
“We don't ship a game at EA that is offline,” said Moore. “It just doesn't happen. And gamers either want to be connected so their stats and achievements reflect who they are, or you want the full multiplayer experience on top of that. We don't deliver offline experiences anymore.”
When asked whether the publisher would be supporting new products such as the nVidia Shield, Ouya, or Oculus Rift, Moore said EA’s focus was on the console market, followed by iOS and Android development.
Moore is acting boss of EA while a successor to former CEO John Riccitiello is found.
