Development on a sequel to supervillain strategy title Evil Genius will be underway soon, says Rebellion.

In a post on its official blog, the Sniper Elite developer said it had always wanted to make a fully-featured sequel for PC.

“We’ve taken concepts for an Evil Genius sequel to publishers before but we weren’t able to secure the funding we needed,” said the studio.

“However since then, we’ve looked into alternative ways to get this game funded and created. We are going to make this happen. And it’s going to be soon.

“We’ve been watching the Evil Genius community for some time now, and we’re sorry that we couldn’t tell you earlier about our plans. If anything, your enthusiasm over the last couple of weeks has galvanized our efforts.

The studio said that it would engage with the game's community and get it involved in the first steps of the sequel's development.

Evil Genius was created by Elixir Studios in 2004, but with its closure, the IP was purchased by Rebellion in 2006.

The latter is currently putting the finishing touches on Evil Genius Online, a free-to-play social game heading to Facebook and Zynga.com.
