The privileges on one Xbox Live Gold membership will extend to all user accounts on an Xbox One console, Microsoft has announced.

The new system, Home Gold, gives all users of an Xbox One console access to all digital games, online multiplayer, Game DVR, SmartMatch, and other Gold apps under their own gamertag, even if the Gold member is not signed in on the console.

“It means that your account and your gamertag are truly yours,” said Microsoft.

“You don’t have to share your gamertag for multiplayer gaming with others in your home, or see recommendations for your kid’s cartoons next to the recommended first-person shooter for you.”

On top of that, signing into a Gold account on a friend’s console will extend Gold privileges to all accounts on that console, and also give access to any digital games on that Gold account.

This will allow online co-op multiplayer using only one Gold account, said Microsoft.

“Once you log in with your Xbox Live Gold account, everyone using that console can access multiplayer and entertainment apps for as long as you are logged in,” it said.

It isn't clear whether Gold privileges remain on a console when its associated Gold account is in use elsewhere, although an account may be signed in on an Xbox 360 and Xbox One simultaneously.

However, on the Xbox 360, Gold features and games are tied to a specific account and gamertag.

In related news, Microsoft has announced that all Xbox Live Family Pack-exclusive features will be discontinued at the end of this month.

That means those on Family Pack accounts will no longer be able to receive account monitoring reports or allocate Microsoft Points to linked accounts.

Instead, each Family Pack account will be split into individual Gold accounts, each of which will be gifted an additional three months of Gold for the inconvenience.
