Nintendo appears to be giving the cold shoulder to Wii U indie developers games in its home country.
As reported by Kotaku, a questionnaire from this year’s Game Developers Conference (GDC) stated in both English and Japanese: "We are not accepting applications from developers located in Japan at this time."
No reason was offered.
"Seeing 'No Japs' written on an international-looking website is such a terrible sight that it makes me weep," tweeted a Japanese developer from indie group Studio Rice Cake.
That same developer said there was a lot of interest in the Wii U from Japanese indies at GDC, and that many had applied for developer kits only to be told a month later by Nintendo that supporting indie developers living in Japan was too difficult.
Nintendo recently allowed indies to self-publish on the Wii U.
