Shigeru Miyamoto, the creator of two of gaming’s most iconic and enduring properties, Mario and Zelda, is working on a new franchise for Nintendo.
Speaking with Japanese gaming publication Famitsu, Miyamoto said, “I've been thinking it would be a good time to bring out a new franchise.”
“I can't say too much in detail right now, but I've been pretty busy with this title these days.”
Nintendo’s new Wii U has struggled to establish itself. It has the smallest installed base at the seven-month mark when compared to any other console released in the last decade, reports Gamasutra.
Publishers are also beginning to question ongoing support for the struggling console. This week, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot revealed that ZombiU, the Wii U’s best-selling third-party exclusive, “wasn’t even close to being profitable.”
