A Los Angeles-based content distribution company has acquired the rights to more than 300 Amiga games that it intends to bring to PC and mobile platforms.

Writers' Group Film Corp. (WGFC) sewed up the rights to the titles when it acquired Amiga Games Inc. (AGI) for US$500,000.

“AGI resurrects classic Amiga games and other classic titles, by giving them new life on today's gaming platforms: smartphones, PCs, consoles, and tablets,” said WGFC.

“Older gamers can replay favorites from the past, while a new generation of gamers can experience these excellent titles as fresh content.”

WGFC is now seeking distribution arrangements with hardware manufacturers to get that game library out.

The games included in AGI's catalogue have not been disclosed.

The 16-bit Amiga was launched by Commodore in 1985 as a high-end home computer, and was widely considered to be ahead of its time.

Its most popular incarnation was 1987's Amiga 500, and notable games on the system included Defender of the Crown, Speedball 2, Marble Madness, Another World, and Shadow of the Beast.
