Spicy Horse’s latest Kickstarter campaign is for a narrative-driven action-adventure game set within an alternate version of the Oz universe.

According to the game’s Kickstarter page, Ozombie sees Dorothy's great-great-granddaughter join forces with Tin Woodsman and Lion to battle Scarecrow's mindless army for control of Oz.

Primarily a singleplayer game with an emphasis on role-playing, tactical combat, exploration and storytelling, Ozombie will feature a variety of perspectives and game modes.

Spicy Horse is seeking US$950,000 for the project, and has raised US$85,142 so far with 39 days remaining in its fundraising campaign.

The appearance of the game isn’t a complete surprise: in May the American McGee-led studio announced it was working on Kickstarters for both an Oz-based title as well as another Alice game – the latter being dependent on Spicy Horse reacquiring the Alice IP from EA.

"We're still having meaningful and productive conversations with EA regarding Alice," said the company.

"Truth is, it's an important bit of IP for them and for us (and for you!) which means that negotiating a deal is going to take time."

Should it be funded, Ozombie will be developed in the Unity Engine for Windows, Mac, Linux, and “latest-gen tablets”.

Spicy Horse has already successfully crowdfunded a game this year: action-RPG Akaneiro: Demon Hunters.
