EA has signed an exclusive multi-year deal with Disney to develop Star Wars games.
Under the agreement, EA will develop and publish new Star Wars titles for a core gaming audience "spanning all interactive platforms and the most popular game genres", while Disney will retain certain rights to develop new titles within the mobile, social, tablet, and online game categories.
Disney acquired Star Wars studio Lucasfilm in 2012 and shut down its game development subsidiary LucasArts last month.
According to EA Labels President Frank Gibeau, DICE and Visceral will produce new Star Wars games, joining the BioWare team which will continue to develop for the Star Wars franchise.
“Every developer dreams of creating games for the Star Wars universe,” said Gibeau.
“The new experiences we create may borrow from films, but the games will be entirely original with all new stories and gameplay.”
The fate of LucasArts’ in-development Star Wars titles – including Star Wars 1313 – are still unknown.
