First month sales of God of War: Ascension and Gears of War: Judgment were disappointing, according to US financial firm Cowen & Company.

As reported by Games Industry, Cowen & Company estimated that sales of the two blockbuster titles were significantly down on their predecessor’s initial showings.

The company has sales of Gears of War: Judgement at around 425,000 units in the US (compared to two million for Gears of War 3’s first month), and those of God of War: Ascension at 360,000 units (compared to 1.1 million for God of War 3).

"We had expected sales trends to improve in March due to a strong core line-up," wrote Cowen & Company.

"Two historically strong franchises appear to have significantly underperformed."

According to Cowen, Tomb Raider and fared better, selling 696,000 units in its first 33 days.

Similarly, Bioshock Infinite has moved 665,000 copies in a mere 10 days.
