Supreme Commander developer Gas Powered Games is “betting the company” on its latest game – a Kickstarter venture by the name of Wildman.
Speaking with Gamasutra, Gas Powered Games’ CEO Chris Taylor said that it was do or die for the company with the fundraising effort.
"It's not good. We're all in on this," he said.
"We spent all the last dough that we've had, and the last several months working on it. So we're betting the company on it."
Wildman is an RTS/RPG hybrid that also incorporates some MOBA mechanics.
Controlling a single hero, players command troops, fight alongside them, and then explore environments in an effort to advance their civilisation and expand their lands.
The stakes are high for Gas Powered, but it’s not the first time Taylor has bet the company on a single game.
"I've bet my company on Dungeon Siege, going from 1 to 2, I bet it on Supreme Commander, I bet it on pretty much every big game we've ever made.
“And that's the name of the game, to take risks, as an independent developer. Many studios have closed shop, but they're big boys, they knew what they were doing."
At the time of writing, Wildman has raised US$24,285 of a US$1,100,000 (AU$1,040,800) goal, with 32 days to go in its fund drive.
Gas Powered Games has joined the Kicking It Forward initiative, where five per cent of Wildman’s profits will be returned to the Kickstarter community in the form of pledges for other games.
