Valve is working on something hardware-related that will “make Steam games more fun to play in your living room", according to employee Jeri Ellsworth.

Speaking with Engadget, Ellsworth said that her team was working with the people behind the Steam Big Picture mode on the product, which would see a public beta test next year.

The hardware was described as a solution to the control barriers found in many Steam games, said Ellsworth, who wouldn’t elaborate further except to say nothing – from Phantom Lapboard-esque solutions to hybrid controllers – was off the table.

Ellsworth also mentioned that the company's wearable computer initiatives were two to five years from being shown to consumers.
