Microsoft’s Surface tablet will be available from October 26, the company’s annual report has confirmed.

If that date sounds familiar, that’s because the company's Windows 8 operating system comes out that same day.

“The next version of our operating system, Windows 8, will be generally available on October 26, 2012,” reads Microsoft’s report.

“At that time, we will begin selling the Surface, a series of Microsoft-designed and manufactured hardware devices.”

The announcement refers only to the ARM processor-based version of the tablet, the less powerful of its two flavours. It will run Windows RT, a light-weight OS that comes with Office built-in.

An Intel processor-based Surface tablet running Windows 8 Pro will ship 90 days later, in January 2013.
