VG247 is reporting that Sony will not announce the PS3-4000 at its gamescom press conference in mid August.

The latest version of Sony's PlayStation 3 promises to offer a smaller form factor than the existing PS3 slim, as well as up to 16GB of Flash-based memory.

Sony had planned to showcase the PS3-4000 at gamescom, however stock levels of the current build are said to be too high to allow Sony to move forward with the new device.

The new PS3 will feature a flip-lid disc input, as well as 250GB and 500GB hard drive options to accompany the 16GB version.
