Nintendo’s 3DS XL, a new version of the 3DS that has a 90 percent larger screen, will be available in Australia and New Zealand on August 23.

The stereoscopic 3D screen of the XL measures 12.4cm diagonally (compared to 9cm on vanilla 3DS), while the bottom touchscreen increases from 7.6cm to
10.6cm.

The recommended retail price of the unit is AU$249.95, and it will be available in silver and black, red and black, and blue and black.

“The new system will create even more immersive entertainment experiences for users, delivering a wealth of games and video content that can be enjoyed on the go,” said Nintendo.

The 3DS XL features a new battery system which outperforms that of the original 3DS, according to Nintendo.

It also comes bundled with a 4GB SD card.
