Sony still intends to support 3D where appropriate says SCEE president Jim Ryan, despite the technology being conspicuously absent from its press conference at this year’s E3.
In 2010 and 2011 3D technology was at the forefront of the company’s E3 showcase.
Ryan dismissed claims that the tech has failed to gain traction, and cited attempts to make Sony’s conference shorter as a reason for 3D’s absence.
“I just think that it's something that's now moving into the mature phase… 3D was the new thing two years ago, it's not the new thing anymore - it's just part of the bedrock of content development and publishing.”
Another possible explanation for 3D's absence: Sony is too busy testing its Smell-O-Vision nasal plug peripheral.
