Speaking with Game Informer, Visceral Games have elaborated upon Tuesday’s limited announcement of Dead Space 2, commenting on the game’s location, weapons, characters, monsters and multiplayer.
Dead Space 2 will be set on one of Saturn’s moons, in a space station called Sprawl. This new location will be significantly larger than the original Dead Space’s Ishimura.
Magazine Game Informer writes that Sprawl is an “organic, haphazardly constructed, long-term place that's built around the remaining shards of one of Saturn's moons...Like any real city it is not all built by one person. Some stuff was built up, and [it includes] corporate areas, government areas, and public areas.” Expect to be able to explore churches, schools and shopping malls.
Instead of arriving after the event, Isaac will watch the infection unfold on Sprawl, giving him the opportunity to speak up. Apparently his experience on the Ishimura has left him a little cracked.
That said, Visceral Games plan to do away with pharmacy-grade survival horror: While still containing frights, Visceral are seeking “better pacing.” Isaac will be afforded passages of play where, courtesy of strategic advantage or new weapon such as the javelin gun, he’s significantly stronger than his foes.
As to the nature of those foes, Visceral tease necromorphed babies with claws and without lips.
All that the developers are prepared to tell Game Informer about the multiplayer is that “it's really fun, and you'll get to strategically dismember your friends.”
