Hideo Kojima, creator and director of the Metal Gear Solid series, announced today at E3 that a new addition to the franchise is currently under development.
Entitled Metal Gear Solid: Rising, this title will be the first in the history of the series to appear on the Xbox 360 console. Publishers Konami have refused to comment on whether Rising will appear on any other console, or indeed when it will be released.
Kojima has also revealed that Solid Snake will not be returning in Rising, as players will now control the cyborg Raiden. Raiden first debuted in Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty on the PS2.
Hopes for an Xbox 360 release of Metal Gear Solid 4 appear to have been dashed, however until Konami's press conference on Wednesday we won't know for sure.
"The Metal Gear Solid series is one of the most highly acclaimed video game franchises of all time," said Anthony Crouts, Vice President of Marketing for Konami Digital Entertainment. "With Metal Gear Solid: Rising, the Xbox 360 community will finally get a chance to enjoy the action and excitement that this popular franchise is known to offer."
