As you probably know Age of Mythology is a bit different to Ensemble's previous titles. Rather than having lots of different human races there are three central races, and the more distinct division of these races are determined by the Gods they (ie you) choose to worship. We are going to take a look at the three initial gods of each race and how they differ. There are some screens for you to take a gander at too!
The three primary gods of the Greek race are Zeus, Poseidon and Hades. We should really do the big bad boy justice so we'll take a look at Zeus first.
ZEUS
Zeus was the leader of the Greek pantheon of gods and was an interesting sort of character. He was a sky god and so was prone to hurling bolts of lightning here and there. One of his favourite hobbies was turning himself into an animal to pick up chicks but we doubt we'll see much of this in the game.
God Power: A lightning bolt which will kill a single enemy unit.
POSEIDON
Poseidon was Zeus's brother and when they divvied up the mortal world Poseidon got the sea. Greek mythology tells us he's a tempremental sort of a fellow, when he gets worked up he has a tendency to wipe out cities with tidal waves. Oddly enough it appears that in-game choosing to worship Poseidon doesn't provide any benefits to naval units.
God Power: Poseidon can create a magical stone that will draw wild animals to it.
HADES
Another one of Zeus's cronies who lucked out on the dividing up the world front, Hades is lord of the underworld. Making sure the dead get their just desserts is his main concern but he also finds time to keep an eye on gold, gems and other mineral resources.
God Power: Hades can summon four sentinels to keep a watchful eye on your town centre.
Stay tuned for info on the Norse and Egpytian Gods over the coming week.
