Assassin's Creed Brotherhood 360

Review

When it was first announced, Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood sounded dangerously like glorified downloadable content for its predecessor. But what Ubisoft Montreal offers is the most refined experience in the series so far.

AC Brotherhood drops always-on DRM

Ubisoft has scrapped its controversial always-on DRM system for the PC edition of Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood.

Website vg247 quotes the publisher as saying, “Ubisoft confirms that the PC version of Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, after an initial login, will be playable offline in single-player mode.”

Ubisoft launched the DRM scheme last year with the release of Settlers 7 but ditched it for the release of strategy title RUSE.

AC: Brotherhood scoops WGA award

Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood has taken home the Writers Guild of America award for Best Videogame Writing.

Shows what we know: Before scoring Brotherhood 9/10, we warned, “Ezio’s character doesn’t develop in any consequential way and there’s a woeful lack of intrigue to the historical plot.”

In our defence however, Brotherhood was only in competition with Fallout: New Vegas, God of War III, Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands, Singularity, and Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II.

As to the game’s content, CFO Alain Martinez said nothing would be discussed before the new year: “Maybe after Christmas in January we'll be able to talk about what kind of product we have.”

Assassin's Creed Brotherhood multiplayer

The collective interest of the Assassin's Creed fanbase has been piqued ever since the inclusion of muiltiplayer was first announced for Brotherhood. Just how could this work in a game world which is so obviously solo-oriented?

After time with the beta, and the LAN demo at Armageddon this weekend past, it's clear that Ubisoft have done it justice.

The Armageddon demo was the same one previously shown at E3, and the beta has some new features and a slightly cleaner interface. The biggest difference visually is that the button prompts are now colour-coded, which will be important to players with Standard Definition TVs.
