Spicy Horse’s American McGee has said that Alice: Madness Returns is seeking an M Rating, meaning you won’t find extreme gore.

Speaking in an interview with Eurogamer, McGee said that the original Alice was about trying to be true to Lewis Carroll’s books.

“This time around it's the same thing: we're trying to be true to this version of Alice that we've created and the world in which she lives and the problems she has,” said McGee.

“That means we are going to be dealing with what you could call adult or mature topics; she's not living a happy or easy life.”

Players can expect a game that deals with “adult” and “mature” content, over what Eurogamer describes as “injections of puberty for a new console audience.”

McGee concluded, “This will be an M title, but it's going to be in the sense of mature, adult content, not over the top violent, horror content.”

In the game, players will control Alice ten years after the original title as she tries to recover from the emotional trauma of her family’s death in a fire. Having spent the interceding decade in an insane asylum, Alice is released into the custody of a psychiatrist who is trying to discover the root of her horrific mature visions. The game will be set in a gloomy Victorian London and a “provocative” Wonderland.

Alice: Madness Returns will be released on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC next year.
