Too Human 360

Review

A good start to what will likely be an epic trilogy. Too Human has an element of uniqueness about it that requires some getting used to, but nevertheless it's certainly a game worth taking a long look at.

Silicon Knights intend to finish Too Human trilogy

Silicon Knights' otherwise forgettable Too Human might not be relegated to the history books just yet.

In an interview with IndustryGamers, Denis Dyack has stated: "We intend to finish the trilogy but no comment beyond that... You know, there's very public litigation around that."

Dyack refers to the ongoing lawsuit with Gears of War developer Epic Games. Silicon Knights have accused Epic of supplying less-than-complete Unreal engine code, allegedly forcing Too Human to undergo a protracted development phase.

Too Human GRNDL trailer

Microsoft have released a new trailer and several screenshots for Too Human, showcasing this third-person action game due to be released for the Xbox 360 on August 28.

"GRNDL is an anomaly amongst machines – it eats human flesh. Whether it is just to create a terrifying visage or whether it requires human flesh for sustenance isn’t known. GRNDL’s presence was only felt when it began to attack the outlying settlements of Midgard, leaving horrifically mangled corpses in its wake. The sheer power and carnage behind the attacks denied the possibility of a serial killer or purely human villain – the tracks implied something inhuman and even more horrific."

New Too Human screenshots released

The following is from a press release issued by Microsoft regarding the evolution of Baldur, a god in the upcoming RPG Too Human due to be released exclusively for the Xbox 360.

"Baldur wasn’t always Baldur. In fact, he was originally much less of a god than he is now. When Too Human was first conceived as a cyberpunk influenced science fiction game, Baldur was known as “John Franks” – a somewhat uninteresting moniker for an understated hero. We had wanted Too Human to open up in a very mundane, clichéd manner to lure the player into a sense of “been there, done that” and had set Franks up accordingly as a beat cop whose family was killed and he was looking for revenge.

At this point there was almost no Norse Mythology in the game at all. As the story was written and developed, we began to see more and more of the mythology reflected in the story. Throughout this, Franks changed: had hair, had none; had a goatee, then none, etc. His design fluctuated with the whims of the artists or anyone else - no one had a clear vision of what he should, or shouldn’t, look like.

Too Human

A few weeks ago I had the opportunity to try out Too Human for Xbox 360. I've been following Too Human for a long time and had come to the conclusion that the concept had the potential to be a great game.

Or a mediocre game.

It would all come down to how it felt when you were actually sitting on the couch playing it. Now, I obviously can't speak for you, but so far I'm convinced.
