THQ: Frontlines to support over 50 players

NEWS by Dan Cheer 28 Feb 2008, 10:17 am

THQ today confirmed comments made by Frontlines: Fuel of War developer Kaos that the game will have support for "over fifty" players on Xbox Live.

The first map to do so will be "Village", which begins as a close-quarters fight through small buildings before graduating into an open battlefield as said buildings are blown apart by the battle.

THQ says that other maps will be opened up for 50-player combat once demand has reached a point where additional dedicated servers need to be brought online. THQ has also stated that the PC version has support for 64 players.

Frontlines: Fuel of War

Frontlines: Fuel of War has been available as a downloadable single-player demo from Xbox LIVE for a while now, however as the game release draws closer developer Kaos (formerly known as Trauma Studios - creators of the Desert Combat mod for Battlefield 1942) has released a multiplayer demo to showcase some of the more complex aspects of this shooter.

We caught up with the NZ distributors for Frontlines to check out the demo, and from what we can see so far this is shaping up to be a significant title this year. We were taken through the initial opening sequence, and given an introduction to the central concept of the game: the frontline itself.

As part of a team, you can elect to charge straight at the enemy, with fairly predictable results, or you can move to a series of checkpoints designed to move your area of occupation forward. Checkpoints can be captured by a host of ingenious means - Kaos have advised there will be over sixty various types of remote controlled drones and other battlefield aids available in the final release.

Frontlines: Fuel of War combines intensely cinematic, non-linear game play, with next generation firepower and a revolutionary Frontline Combat System to deliver the most thrilling and engaging FPS to date.
