Except for the part where there are only three characters with crappy generic designs to choose from and no visual customisation. Seriously, they couldn't possibly have a character creation tool like any Boxing/Wrestling/UFC game? Hell, even Rock Band has a hell of a lot of customisation to it aside from the bizarre body proportions.
Well it is an Action RPG with a player character-driven plot, those can be far less engaging for a lot of people if the player is a voiceless mute. They could've still had visual customisation a la Mass Effect, but totally kept the set-in-stone characters bases, I totally agree. But being able to build a character entirely from scratch (a la Elder Scrolls) probably wouldn't resulted in a less immersive narrative than what they were striving for, i.e. where everyone might be addressing you with some generic title or in third person ("hey you", "the recruit", etc).
My current issue is with the character Ayumi. If she's supposed to be fresh off the boat from Japan, then why does she have a perfect American accent? I can buy having the character having very good English speaking skills, but the latter? Nah.
This reminds me of Mei-Ling from MGS. She's supposed to be born and raised in America, yet she has a very thick, stereotypical East-Asian immigrant accent.
