Deep Silver has announced the first downloadable content for open-world zombie title Dead Island.
Called “Ryder White”, the DLC gives players control of the game’s antagonist. It will also provide new insight into the game’s main story, demonstrate White’s motivations, and show him as both a military man and a husband.
Deep Silver says the content will bring several hours of new gameplay, as well as two new blueprints and weapons.
Polish developer Techland has estimated that open world zombie survival title Dead Island is the biggest-selling new IP of 2011 at three million sales.
Speaking with Polish gaming site Giernik.pl, Techland representative Tomasz Gawlikowski said, “In this year there weren't a lot of big, new IP in games.
“In the Autumn there was Dead Island and Rage. I don't remember any other new franchise, but there were a lot of big sequels. And Dead Island sold very, very well.
Motion Picture Company Lionsgate has secured the options from Deep Silver to create a movie based on Dead Island.
The game’s Cannes Lion-winning debut trailer is to be the inspiration for the movie, says Lionsgate.
“The film Dead Island will be an innovation of the zombie genre because of its focus on human emotion, family ties and non-linear storytelling,” it said.
Techland has issued a humble apology after PC gamers were sold a version of zombie survival game Dead Island that included a skill called “Feminist Whore”.
The name for the skill was in an earlier build of Dead Island, and was never intended for the final version. This development build was accidentally released to Steam and sold to gamers.
“It has come to our attention that one of Dead Island's leftover debug files contains a highly inappropriate internal script name of one of the character skills. This has been inexcusably overlooked and released with the game,” said Techland in its statement.
The Royal Palms Resort on Banoi Island has a terrible problem. An infestation has swept the tropical paradise and now a mindless, all-consuming horde lurks its sparkling sands and poolside bars.
But Aussie tourists aren’t the only horrible disaster to befall this small island off the coast of Papua New Guinea: a lesser but arguably more pressing evil is a freshly minted zombie plague.
