Limbo sells 1 million

Playdead, the studio behind Limbo, has announced it has sold 1 million copies of the game, a milestone that has allowed it to regain independence by buying out early investors.

“With the success that Limbo has achieved, we felt this was the ideal time to fully regain our independence,” said studio boss Dino Patti.

“We are grateful to everyone who supported us over the past few years, and look forward to forging new partnerships that will both let us reach new heights as a studio and give our director, Arnt Jensen, room to grow creatively.”

Limbo confirmed for PC, PS3

Following yesterday’s news that Limbo for PlayStation 3 had been spotted on a list of content to be rated by the Korean Ratings Board, developer Playdead has today confirmed that the platformer will be coming to both the PlayStation Network and Steam for PC.

Website Joystiq reports that Playdead will handle both ports itself. When asked by Eurogamer whether these versions would include content not seen in the original Xbox LIVE Arcade exclusive, Playdead CEO Dino Patti said, “We can't elaborate more on this at this moment. We'll have more details on it soon.”

A monochrome platformer, Limbo has received near-universal praise from critics.

Limbo for PS3 outed

Playdead’s Limbo appears to be preparing for launch on the PlayStation 3.

The Korean ratings board has received a submission from Sony Computer Entertainment that includes the enchanting monochrome platformer, previously only available on Xbox LIVE Arcade.

Limbo earned special mention in Gameplanet’s Best of 2010 awards. Then, we wrote that Limbo offers, “misery and frustration in equal measure, set atop a hauntingly beautiful grey-scale background with similarly depressing sound effects. It's fantastic.”
