I think it's cus you gotta be watching a TV screen to know what drum or button to hit next. You can't rock out, jump around, and go crazy, while still playing :P Plus a TV just isn't as loud
I will say though, that cranking up GH1 on the home theatre and knowing some of the songs off by heart was fun - because you really could then rock out. But overall, I think the whole franchise is a gimmik, and people should learn to play real music.
