Very poor sales of Alpha Protocol have led SEGA West boss Mike Hayes to go on the record stating that there will be no sequel.
"Let's speak very commercially: the game hasn't sold what we've expected, therefore we won't be doing a sequel," he said in an interview with CVG.
It will be all the more disappointing for SEGA as the Obsidian-developed spy RPG had no significant competition within the RPG genre during its May release.
Hayes went on to say that Alpha Protocol was conceptually brilliant, but, "You know this whole thing with Metacritic where you have to be in the high 70s to mid-80s minimum [to have any success] - well, with RPGs you have got to be in the late 80s.
“Again, the amount you need to invest to get there is so large because RPGs are naturally big projects.”
Obsidian are currently working on Fallout: New Vegas.
