Left 4 Dead 360

Review

Valve's much anticipated Zombie game is a co-op experience not to be missed. Although a few more levels would have been nice, the AI is smart enough to provide a unique game each time around. This one is highly recommended!

Left 4 Dead Crash Course dated

Valve today announced that Crash Course, the second downloadable content update for Left 4 Dead, will be made available worldwide on September 29 on Xbox 360 and PC.

Crash Course delivers new single-player, multiplayer and co-operative gameplay to both platforms, and bridges the gap between the end of the "No Mercy" campaign and the beginning of "Death Toll" in the original game.

While containing both Survival maps and a Co-operative Campaign, Valve have stated that the primary goal of Crash Course is to deliver a complete Versus mode experience in just 30 minutes, resulting in a streamlined version of the game's existing Versus campaigns. A recharge timer for infected teammates has also been added, and item spawn behaviour has changed for more balanced gameplay.

Valve have today announced a new downloadable content package for Left 4 Dead.

Entitled "Crash Course," the latest DLC delivers new single-player, multiplayer and co-operative gameplay to both platforms. Targeted for release in September, "Crash Course" bridges the gap between the end of the "No Mercy" campaign and the beginning of "Death Toll" in the original game, expanding the game universe with new locations, new dialogue from the original cast, and what Valve have described as an "explosive" finale.

The Left 4 Dead Steam community has joined together to campaign against the release of Left 4 Dead 2.

Fans are outraged that developers Valve have failed to provide extra content for the original Left 4 Dead, and that the additional content announced for Left 4 Dead 2 doesn't warrant a standalone sequel.

The Steam community page in question contains statements such as "The release of Left 4 Dead 2 as a stand-alone sequel will split the communities and decrease the quality of multiplayer gaming", and "Left 4 Dead has not yet received the support and content which Valve has repeatedly stated will be delivered." The group demands that Valve "honour its commitment to release ongoing periodic content for Left 4 Dead", and that "Left 4 Dead owners be given discounts for Left 4 Dead 2, should it be released as premium content."

NEWS by Dan Cheer 9 Feb 2009, 2:30 pm

Valve has announced a series of content and development releases for its latest title Left 4 Dead.

The first L4D DLC - dubbed the L4D Survival Pack - is due for release this autumn and introduces a new multiplayer game mode entitled "Survival" plus two complete campaigns for Versus Mode. A Critic's Choice Edition of the game is also heading to retail stores at the same time, and will include access to all the content introduced in the L4D: Survival Pack.

In addition, for PC gamers and aspiring developers, the first Left 4 Dead release for the Source Software Development Kit (Source SDK) will allow the creation of custom Left 4 Dead campaigns that will be discoverable via L4D's matchmaking system. The SDK update is also due for release this spring, and is free of charge to all owners of L4D on the PC.

Valve issues Left 4 Dead patch

Valve have issued the following press release regarding the Xbox 360 version of Left 4 Dead, addressing associated reports of blatant cheating, namely allowing safe rooms to be filled with Witches.

"Valve has released a server-side fix to deny the recently reported cheats on all dedicated Left 4 Dead Xbox 360 servers. The fix is designed to halt the cheating behaviour on the dedicated servers, which accounts for the majority of the co-op and Versus modes of play. A title update for those playing on user-hosted servers and/or via system link will be released in the coming days."

Left 4 Dead (L4D) is a new action title from Valve, creators of the Counter-Strike and Half-Life games, and promises to redefine the co-operative genre as those titles did for multiplayer and single player action games.

Set in a modern day survival-horror universe, the co-operative gameplay of L4D casts four “Survivors” in an epic struggle against hordes of swarming zombies and terrifying “Boss Infected” mutants.

Valve’s next generation AI technology, allows for games of 1 to 8 players. Players can play as a Survivor or as one of four types of “Boss Infected,” each of whom possess a unique mutant ability such as a 50-foot tongue lasso or a giant belly full of explosive methane gas.

The gameplay takes place across four massive campaigns. The “zombie” population of each mission is choreographed by an “AI Director” that monitors the human players’ actions and creates a unique and dramatic experience for them on the fly.
