Pure 360

Review

This is a great example of what can be achieved if fun is the primary aim. Massive tricks, amazing scenery, hugely modifiable bikes - what more do you want?

Pure Q&A session

Pure was released this week to eager gamers, keen to try for themselves the title voted IGN's Best Racing Game at E3 this year.

Developed by Black Rock Studio, Disney's award-winning development studio in England, Pure takes quad racing to a new level, featuring massive jumps and spectacular airborne tricks in memorable, photo-realistic settings all over the globe. We've been following the progress of Pure throughout the year, and have spent many hours with preview and review code getting a handle on the truly insane jumps and challenging terrain available.

Disney NZ has kindly put some of our questions to Jason Avent of Black Rock, who has taken some time away from racing quad bikes to give us a bit more of an insight into his role with Pure.

Pure demo to hit XBL and PSN

NEWS by Dan Cheer 3 Sep 2008, 1:29 pm

We've just heard from Disney Interactive that the demo for Pure will be available worldwide for download on Xbox LIVE Marketplace and PlayStation Network on Thursday, September 4.

The demo takes place on the Italy – Mount Garda track, one of 36 tracks in the game. Players must mix speed and tricks to complete the three-lap race against fifteen AI competitors. The demo also includes a brief tutorial on a qualifying track to get players up to speed on the game controls.

It must be hard for a publisher to be forever identified with cute, cuddly farmyard animals. Ask Disney, they should know.

It's no surprise then to see Disney branching out a bit with their choice of material, and while we're unlikely to see Manhunt 3 being picked up by the entertainment giant, they've made a couple of inroads so far this year with content that's likely to generate a bit of interest amongst the more mature gaming segment.

Disney Interactive (a subsidiary, of course) released Turok earlier this year, managing to not only revive a franchise older than its subject matter, but also prove that it's best to check the competition's release dates before offering up a FPS to the market. Prince Caspian came shortly afterwards, which to be fair was actually a pretty good title, albeit shamefully overlooked by too many gamers.
