Battlefield: Bad Company 360

Review

Bad Company is an action-packed, vehicle-ridden, explosive-charged FPS which really packs a punch. Deformable environments and a vast array of vehicles to command, as well as exemplary single-player and multiplayer make for great bang for your buck. This is certainly no one trick pony and any downfalls are more than made up for.

Battlefield: Bad Company conquest mode detailed

Electronic Arts has released a new trailer and screenshots from Battlefield: Bad Company, showing the Conquest mode which will be available for free.

As introduced by Battlefield 1942, sides compete to capture spawn points and lower the enemies flag count. Once a team captures a control point, its members can re-spawn in the area. When a team loses control of all their flags or control points, they cannot re-spawn.

Grab the trailer from GP Downloads (42MB), the four screenshots released by EA today are below.

Electronic Arts have released the latest Battlefield: Bad Company trailer ahead of the launch of the demo for Xbox Live and the PlayStation Network today.

In the demo, players will land on the battlefield as part of the ‘B’ or Bad Company, a wayward band of soldiers more interested in the pursuit of gold and personal financial gain than following the rules. Gamers will get a sneak peek at how tactical destruction changes the way shooters are played, both offline and online in the single player and multiplayer demo.

Check out the trailer below, and don't forget to read our Developer Q&A as well as our beta preview. The full game will be released for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on June 27.

Battlefield: Bad Company Q&A

Battlefield: Bad Company Q&A

GP: Considering this is the first time a Battlefield game has had a proper single-player game; during development what would you say was the focus between multiplayer and single-player? Was there a 50/50 focus here?

Troedsson: Battlefield: Bad Company is the first game in the series to include a true story and character driven single-player campaign. Since this is a first for us here at DICE we’ve of course spent quite some time on this. However, a Battlefield game wouldn’t be a Battlefield game unless the multiplayer was spot on. So we’ve more or less had two large groups of developers working in parallel, one for the offline campaign and one for the online experience. The result is a solid offering with the best of both worlds.

GP: Battlefield games are famous for lots of diverse classes in their multiplayer. Will the player also get to choose a specific class for single-player? How does that work?

Battlefield: Bad Company

The Battlefield games have been around for quite a while now and if Bad Company is anything to go by, they'll be around quite a while longer.

This being the first made-for-consoles Battlefield game by developer DICE, they are pulling out all the stops. This starts with building an all new engine for the game called the Frostbite Engine. While not the best looking on the market, Bad Company (still in beta form mind you) is a great looking game.

The big feature, however, of the Frostbite Engine is destructibility. Simply put, you can blow stuff up! Pretty much everything in the game will go down to a good shot from your grenade launcher, rocket, tank etc.

Got a pesky enemy hiding in that building and need to go through the door and up the stairs to find him? Nonsense! Just blow a hole through the wall and stuff him full of lead. It is a lot of fun when a sniper is hiding behind a window and you just blow up the whole wall, window included.

Electronic Arts has been kind enough to release a new gameplay trailer for Battlefield: Bad Company, the latest Battlefield title due for release at some stage in June. Battlefield: Bad Company drops gamers behind enemy lines with a squad of renegade soldiers who risk it all on a personal quest for gold and revenge.

Keep an eye out for our preview shortly, but in the meantime take a look at the trailer:

Battlefield: Bad Company

360 SCREENSHOTS by Simon Garner 5 Mar 2008, 5:01 pm

First announced at the end of 2006, Battlefield: Bad Company is the first Battlefield game to be designed specifically for consoles. Whereas previous titles have been largely about multiplayer, Bad Company will have a real single-player campaign, putting the player into a squad of renegade soldiers behind enemy lines "who risk it all on a personal quest for gold and revenge."

One of the major new features touted in Bad Company is destructible environments. Most of the buildings and other objects in the world will be able to be destroyed--to a point. A tank has the firepower to blow away most of a building, for example, but there will still be a frame remaining. A player inside the building would be forced to find new cover as the walls are demolished around them.

The destructibility can be used to the player's advantage. Need a good sniping position? Blow out part of a wall and create a comfy cranny for crouching in. A house in your tank's way? Drive over it.
